The War's Long ShadowIn this year’s Frome Festival I will be joining two other writers for a lively and thought-provoking panel discussion hosted by the author KT Fitzpatrick.
Wednesday, 9 July, 7.15 at Archangel Hotel, Frome BA11 1BH. Why does the Second World War continue to fascinate writers – and the rest of us – generations on? We three authors have all explored themes of survival, belonging and memory in our novels: Frances Liardet (We Must be Brave / Think of Me), Felice Hardy (The Tennis Champion Who Escaped the Nazis), and me (Grace). Tickets are available via the Frome Festival website. Do join us – we’d love to see you! My book, Grace, will be on sale at the Frome Publishing Fair on the Archetype Books table, and I will be there all day helping out and happy to sign any copies.
Saturday 5 July, the first day of Frome Festival. I had a wonderful day yesterday, helping out with a Writers in Residence event. Sixteen brave writers took up the challenge to sit in one of Frome's many cafes and other public places, and write a short story in 3 hours from a prompt given them only at the start of the day. The weather was beautiful, the town was busy, and many of the writers reported lovely comments from passers-by. The stories will be judged and prizes given at the Competition Awards event, Sunday 13 July, at Frome's Merlin Theatre. A Frome Writers' Collective event as part of Frome Festival.
